Station continues to grow after launching six months ago
Comedy legend Tommy Cannon will be helping launch a new Saturday lunchtime show on ground-breaking radio station, Konnect Radio.
Tommy will be the first guest of new presenter Steve Legg, who will host The Big Lunch.
Steve will launch his weekly show this Saturday (September 11th) from midday until 1pm by chatting to Tommy, who for more than 50 years was one half of Cannon and Ball.
Steve, who is a magician and has shared billing with the comedy duo, said that a number of celebrities and fascinating people were being lined up as part of the show.
The Big Lunch will include a mix of chat, features and great music and was inspired by Steve’s appearance on 1990s TV show The Big Breakfast.
Steve, who is also editor of men’s magazine Sorted, said: “I am so excited about The Big Lunch. We are combining interviews with celebrities alongside remarkable people, such as wrestler Gareth Angel. Along with chat, we will be reviewing the latest movie releases and including ‘Words of Wisdom’ in what will be a packed hour-long show.”
Steve has been a regular participant on Konnect Radio’s Big Fat Quiz of the Week, which takes place every Friday and has included Piers Morgan and Keith Lemon.
The announcement is just the latest in a line of new shows on Konnect Radio, which launched in March. As a listener-supported radio station, it has added new programmes as it has become more viable financially.
Konnect Radio CEO Gareth Cottrell said: “I am delighted to welcome Steve Legg as our latest presenter. We started out with few shows and are adding them as we increase financial support. The Big Lunch will be an entertaining mix and having comedy legend Tommy Cannon chatting about life after best friend and co-star Bobby Ball will be a must-listen-to show.
“The Big Lunch will be a brilliant addition to our station, which is groundbreaking in the UK. We mix family-friendly mainstream music along with contemporary Christian music. We are amazed at how we’ve grown. We didn’t have a big budget for launch but as we have collected new listeners we have grown thanks to their tremendous support.”
Last month, former Greatest Hits Radio DJ John Clayton joined the daytime schedule as the station’s first mid-morning presenter.
“With more presenters joining us, this exciting six months of Konnect Radio looks like growing as we increase our audience share,” said Gareth, who also presents the daily Breakfast Show.
